Yahoo Messenger is a free service that allows people to talk to their friends who are online by sending them instant messages. It can also alert you if you have a new mail in Yahoo mail or in Yahoo Personal account, or in some data that you have set in Yahoo Calendar. Yahoo Messenger comes with a built-in firewall.
The facilities offered by Yahoo Messenger: voice chat or call, that uses the microphone as an input for a dialogue with a person or conference, that you can make with more friends from the list; video call, webcam, allows the use of a webcam in order to see those in your list. The conference can be done using the webcam also.
Send file is used for sending files and documents, and is more useful in terms of quantity (up to 1 GB though) than even the mail. Send a photo (share photos) is used to transfer the photos. Online games are considered by those in Yahoo company also as functionality of Messenger and this is appreciated by individuals because it creates a new environment that is fun and chases away the boredom. Mass-messages are seen as a facility for sending text messages in very short time to several people at once, or on groups or to the whole list.
Archive is very valuable to an ID stored on your list, and it contains the dialogues with your friends. Also, History plays an important role, pretty much the same as Archive.
Yahoo Messenger’s invisibility has settings for each of your friends, we can associate a so-called Avatar picture to our name and we can attach a text message to our picture, which is called status. Besides Messenger, there are also other some programs that allow the same functionalities. One is Pidgin.
The Messenger list can be arranged in groups and they can be moved or deleted. You are able to do other activities while the Messenger is on. You can use emoticons and also programs to see what friends of yours are hidden (invisible). If you see a friend to be invisible, don’t send him a message. Probably is busy, but at the same time needs a connection with only one person from his list or probably he doesn’t want to speak to you personally. Sorry, this happens sometimes.
You can add the contact or exclude a friend from your list (ignore). As with any messenger program, there are also several versions which are developed by Yahoo, but the Yahoo’s new production is in mobile phones and instant messaging programs. Still, they do not let the Messenger to relax too much. Development is always present in Yahoo. They are developing new ways of getting rid of mail viruses, which are spreading like crazy, even though the anti-virus these days are powerful. The combination of mobile telephony and instant messaging might seem an ideal combination, given the large area of coverage and ease of communication in much better conditions of security.
