When I talk about the title, I mean at the title of the site, so at the keywords found in the title of the site, but also at the words that are written in the title of your posts or articles. Without you knowing this, when you write a title for your articles, you in fact are doing what it is called SEO. So, the keywords in your title of the article should contain in fact the essence of your article.
I have read that the first paragraph of an article can contain of tables. In this situation, what will be the words seen by the RSS feeds, which will be transmitted to those who might eventually visit your site? Well, the words written in the table. These will be the words seen by them, so if you want to attract the readers by using keywords at the beginning of your article, and your article uses a table at the beginning, you can place the keywords in that table, because those words are going to attract more visitors than the rest of the keywords inserted at the middle of the article or in the end.
Do you know a bit of HTML? If you do, you probably know that after you write the source of your image, when you post images on your site, you have to write something in the alt tag. This tag is used for the browsers that can’t read the code which is inserted into the img src tag. This is why most developers don’t actually provide an alt tag, after they insert images. Now, we use Firefox, Chrome, Internet Explorer or other browsers, which almost all of them supprt jpg images. When you insert a jpg image, you can be sure that the image is going to be shown by almost all the browsers in this world, with slight differences when we discuss of the colors of the image.
But the search engines can’t read the images. Instead they read the words written in the alt tag. So, if you don’t care about the Web broswers and how are they going to deliver the image on other people’s computers, you could care about the search engines and write something descriptive in the alt tag. Also, the rule said in my previous article, about the number of the keywords that you use in the content, applies here too. You don’t have to use so many words to attract the visitors to your site, you need to provide only the words that you are sure that are going to bring your visitors. Once again, here I am talking about the images placed on your site. So, after you write the code source for the image, write something for those who don’t use the same browser as you do, because they might experience some difficulties in seeing the image. If they will not see the image, they will see the words written by you in the alt tag.
In this tag, you can write words in any language you want. It is not an imperative condition to write those keywords in English. If your site is written in Italian, you should use the keywords in Italian. Because if you use some keywords written in Italian in the title tag and other words written in English, when you write the alt tag words, you might confuse the search engines. And one more thing, it would be funny for your content to be written in Chinese. I am just joking. Write the words in the same language as your content is written.
The keywords that are used in metatags are not that important for Google. In fact, I have seen a video on YouTube, where an employee of Google mentioned that these words are not important to Google. Why? Because in time, there were some “smart” people that thought that they did place some words in the metatags, they could draw an important number of visitors to their sites. Thing which they managed eventually. Only that Google noticed this and from that time further, this company doesn’t rely anymore on the use of the keywords in the metatags.
So, because of some very “intelligent” people, most of those who do SEO today has to suffer. Don’t worry, there are also other ways that can be used for optimizing the site as you want. Still, if you optimise the site for other search engines, you can add some words there too.
The bad thing is when a SEO engineer optimises a site writing words like “sex”, “naked girls”, “sex toys” in the metatags to be found quickly in the search results, because these words are very looked for. And when you click on the link that is supposed to lead you to a site where you can see naked girls, you have the surprise of ending to a site which is full of other links and banners, in one word, advertising. So, no articles and no pictures with naked girls.
What is funny is that some people who started this bad use of the metatags were tricked themselves by other people who have done the same thing with their own sites, hoping that they will attract more visitors in this way.
If you want to attract visitors, besides a good SEO campaign, you have to write a qualitative content. When you feel ready to write a good content, then you are ready to have a well-optimized site. Until then, you optimise the site in vain, if the content is lame.11
