I wrote an article a couple of hours ago about Miniclip and if you read that article, you must know that I directed you to a site in order to read the information about the Internet safety, what is this and how can this concept can protect your children from a lot of problems. This is why Miniclip posted this on their Website, because the site is visited mostly by teenagers and young children and rarely by adults. Although, I met a few adults which said they like this kind of games, especially when they are in the break time.
The Internet safety information says that you must not say your real name to strangers online. This is a rule created especially for children, which can be made to provide all sort of information online, if you know how to talk to them. This is a rule that must be followed by parents or adults also, but not many of them do this.
Don’t post your real name online. Use a fake name. This is the reason for which the site allows you to use only photos that are not your real photos. You must select one of the available pictures from your face and this will be your YoMe, as it is called on Miniclip.
Don’t talk to strangers about information regarding your address, your city or country. Don’t tell them to what school you go every day, don’t tell them that your parents are not going to be at home tomorrow evening. Don’t count on the fact that a boy says he’s 15. He might be 50 and be a criminal, in the most negative sense of the word.
There are some people that may act as a representative from the site and ask for your passwords. Never tell your passwords to anyone, not even to your brother or sister. You can fight with him or her for something and he or she might want to harm you. What other way than to change the password with a new one, which you will not know until you comply to some rules that he or she imposes to you.
The real representatives of the site will never ask for your password. If you ask me, they have the possibility of seeing the password. You write the password on their site, right? This says it all.
If you are a parent, take some time to explain your children the rules of which we discussed earlier. Try to obey also these regulations. If the children see that not even their parents comply with them, neither will they. The online world is new and it is getting bigger and bigger and not only good people are in it.
Try to tell them to apply these rules on other occasions as well. In other words, not only when they play on Miniclip, they should not speak to strangers, but also when they register on social networks. A child doesn’t have the capacity of recognizing a person, if he is good or bad. Sometimes, this capacity might not even work for an adult, so what more can we ask from our children?
