Even if you imagine that this is an easy job, in fact it’s not. You have to be born for something like this. You have to be born for all the jobs in fact, for several of them in particular. When talking about a broadsheet, the comments are also available, but taking into account that a broadsheet doesn’t have the popularity of a tabloid, the broadsheet will not receive as many comments as an article from a tabloid. To write online on your blog, is a whole other story. You can write even if you don’t have a diploma and even if you are not talented. If you’re not, you probably don’t attract so many readers, but at least you can see what can you improve to your journalistic skills.
To be a journalist doesn’t always mean to be a reporter. Being a reports invoves being almost all the time on the field, taking interviews and shooting the best sequences and photos that can be placed in your newspaper. In that situation, the reporter is called a “photo reporter”.
The ones that start their online experience with journalism and are successful, usually come from a real experience with journalism. They did journalism as their teachers did, in the old way, on printed newspapers and now they switch to online. But you can start directly into the online market, if you love to write, you have a perfect English, you know the spelling and the grammar rules and you wish to be good in what you do. When writing for tabloids, the journalists are not sent to war, but instead they are sent to pubs, restaurants to interview celebrities and to make photos with them. They are called paparazzi, if they only photograph the celebrities. Today, with these techniques, the journalists not only take photos of celebrities, but also film them and insert the videos on the site.
The Internet provides a better experience for the user. It is not like it was 10 years ago. Now, the newspapers have videos, colored pictures and at the name of the article’s author you can find your name, even if you are not a journalist. All these happened because of the Internet’s expansion. On a printed newspaper, you can see photos (some of them black and white and rarely colored pictures), but you cannot see videos. Unless you buy a magazine that can be placed in front of a computer and create the impression that the characters inside the magazine are talking to you. In fact, they are computer programs that have the same speech for everybody that affords a magazine like that.
If no one wants to hire you as a journalist, there is only one way. You have to start your own blog. If you are published on your own blog, you will be able to transmit your potential employers that you have the ability of writing online. On your blog, make sure to place some photos and videos, if possible created by yourself, not taken from other sites or YouTube. If you manage to make a video on your own, you will show your employer that you are really good at what you do and he/she must be glad that they met you. The employer has to feel that you will provide them something, that the company will win if they will hire you. This is the most important rule when applying for a job as a journalist.
