Want To Work For Google?

This is your chance, because Google is hiring. They say that the jobs which are going to be created and the positions for which people may apply will be much more than in 2010.

The most desired opportunities and also the large number of vacancies are in the United States, as normal. The news was posted on googleblog.blogspot.com, so I say we can trust them.

In that piece of news, they mention that Google has an extraordinary success with the Android operating system, which is used on over 100 devices and has more than 300000 activations/per day. 2010 was also the year when the users who changed their Web broswer to Google Chrome started to be more than 120 millions. In 2010, more than 1 million business begin to use Google Apps.

At Google, the Jobs section, we can see what are the available jobs in your region. It might not have an opportunity yet or it may present numberless possibilities for you to get hired at the most important company in the world, in the IT sector and online media.

At Google, your creativity and innovation will be rewarded, not only with money, but with respect and consideration coming from everybody else. You work for Google, after all, right? You must be respected!

In that section of which I mentioned earlier, the Jobs one, you can find not only the available vacancies, but also articles about how life at Google is, the possibilites for students, what are the office locations and where are the placed around the globe, and more information on how to join Google. About this I will definitely write another article, because I consider it important and must be treated in its own way. Right now, I will focus more on jobs.

So, you are in the Jobs section. By default, you are directed towards the main page which presents the available jobs in the United States. But let’s say I want something a little bit more exotic. I know a language which is not spoken by many people, I know English of course and I want to get hired at Google. What can I do? I should skip the page with the vacancies from the United States and go to the continent where the country whose language I know is located.

Click on International Locations and you will see how a map with all the countries in the world appears on your screen. Also, the office locations tab, about which I have mentioned earlier in my presentation becomes inactive. Why? Because we are on that page, we can see the locations on Google in our planet, because they are presented as small pins from place to place. Unfortunately, Google has not yet locations all over the world.

You can click directly on the map to be redirected to a certain region or you can browse the locations by searching the job you want in Europe and Middle East, Asia, Pacific, Africa, and the two Americas.

I have chosen a country and now I can see the available positions in that country. This can be done for any country in the browsing list, simply by clicking on the country. It will transport you to a new page loaded in the same page where the map with all the countries was before. So, in fact the countries are links towards other pages, which present location where you can find a job at Google.

You will not see exactly the name of the position, but the departament in which the position is included. Go further, click on the department, for example “Sales”, “Human Resources”, “Accounting”, “Finance” and more. And only then you will see the actual positions. Click on the name of the vacancy, which is also a link, as I discussed before, to see the information regarding the job, to see if you are compatible with the requirements of the job.

If you can’t apply, because you don’t fulfill the requirements of Google, you should cancel that application and go to another. Let’s say you find a position that would suits you well. Thinking that you will work for Google, every position is ok, if you like what you do. For example, I would never be in the Finance department, even though I used to work with numbers an all before, but I don’t like it.

You have to click the button Add to Job Cart, and even though you have no account on Google, you can make this operation. It is not like when you purchase things from the Internet and you have to have an account before or to register somewhere. You will be registered automatically when you want to submit an application. Actually, I don’t know how this works if you want to submit more applications. Do you have to complete two forms? With the same data? It would have been easier to register and then to apply. I will investigate that and then I shall tell you the exact story.

I have an account at Google, but they did not ask for my username or password, nor they said: “Hello, welcome back” or something like that. You have to indicate your personal information in order to apply to a position. The information includes first name, middle name, last name, your postal address, your e-mail address, city, state, province, zip code, country, region and the number of your phone. Very important. Be careful to write it correctly!

The educational background is also required, the school name, the major, degree and GPA. You have to say if you graduated or if you still attending to courses. Emplyment history is another step in completing the form. You can upload or paste your resume and you should write a cover letter with the help of which to convince your potential employeer that you are designed to work for them. The last question asks how did you find out about the opportunities at hiring at Google on that position. After that, hit the Submit button and you’re done. Wait for an e-mail or a phone call. Good luck!
