When someone starts a blog, it is recommended to do this using a registrar. This is a service where you can find the name of your site. Of course, you must think of a name before checking the registrar, only that you could have the surprise of seeing that the name you want is already taken.
I have written an article, where I have told you already that the simplest way to find if the name of the site you are planning to launch is taken or not by someone else is to write the name on Google. But some names are taken and the sites do not have an interface yet. This is why they do not even appear as being “under construction” as you may have seen on some sites.
So, searching on Google for the name of the site is not always the best option. This is why you have to consult a registrar. When you find that the name of the site is free and ready to be used, you must register the site and buy the name, so that only you can use the name. If someone else will think of the same name, they will not be able to use it, since you have register it. My advice is to go with the sites that have as extensions .com. This is the best option from my point of view. You can register also sites with other extensions, but they are not that popular among the Internet users. This doesn’t mean that the search engines do not index those sites. They index every site that respect the rules that must be respected when you need to index a site, but the users if they only know the name of the site, will search first thenameofthesite.com and then thenameofthesite.net or .org or .info.

Also, you should update and refresh the content of your site as often as you can. It doesn’t matter if you have a personal site or a professional one, you should provide it the same attention, if you want the site to become popular. If all that you want is to make money with your blog, and this soon as possible, don’t bother to offer your site too much attention, because the readers will realise that this is in fact what you are after, and they will leave you site for reading other ones that present better content and that respect their readers.
