Google Desktop is a standalone application that integrates gadgets, like Windows 7. Moreover, unlike in Windows Vista, they can be moved outside the designated area, which is the sidebar. Google Desktop can be installed on Windows XP also.
The main function is to search both files on your computer (like Windows 7′s Search) and on the Internet, the sites you visited last. These last things are more useful than an integrated search. It would have been interesting if they could replace that.
And even if you cannot replace the integrated search, Google Desktop comes available on any operating system, including Linux and Mac OS X or iOS, as it is called these days. You can try it simply by entering the Website of the application.
You can use Google Desktop for search, as I said before, but also for getting a calendar to sync with your own Google Calendar, which by-the-way syncs with the phone. As a cool exercise, you can try to search for a calendar and see what are the first results in the search list. First appears in search results exactly this product which you are using: Google Desktop.
Being a faithful user of many years to Google services portfolio, I always thought that this company creates the best applications and software ever. Those who are reluctant, need to install this new software. You can have a Google Calendar as you wanted. After another clicks you will have the Google Desktop Sidebar gadget hidden in the Google Calendar on your desktop. And you have the possibility to search online, directly from your desktop. Isn’t it great? You do not have to enter the Google Website as everyone knows it, you simply access the Web through this app.
There is also a gallery with new gadgets available. Most have the same functionality as the gadgets in Windows 7, but something is special when talking about Google services. You know: Google mail, Google Calendar, Google Earth, all these toys with which we play.
So far I am very pleased with this app, and although you may speak about some bugs in Google Calendar (I know that there exist, but I never encountered one), one thing is for sure: I did not meet, nor heard or read about bugs in Google Desktop. Are you still looking for a gadget for Google Calendar and you use Windows 7? Why not try Google Desktop? And tell us your opinions.
