I presented two hours ago some applications that are easy to be used on your computer and most of all they are free. They do not occupy resources from your computer, and some of them do exactly the contrary, by freeing up the space on your hard drive, by disabling some programs from running if you do not use them at a certain moment.
SUM0 allows you to easly upgrading your programs. SUM0 (Software Updates Monitor) is an application that will help you to update your installed computer programs. The advantage you have over other alternatives is that the interface has support for other languages too, except English, so the users who are not comfortable with English will find this slightly more accessible.
The application is very easy to use, if you need to get some updates the application provides links to famous sites like download.com or Fileforum to download the new version.
Prevent Restore deletes permanently files, programs, anything. Prevent Restore is a free application that will help to permanently delete files or directories (deleted using the normal way). By overwriting free space with random information Prevent Restore leads to permanent disappearance of the files and folders deleted by simply Delete to the Recycle Bin, making the recovery impossible.
Prevent Restore fills with information every cluster and you cannot recover not even a single word. Because your disk may have a lot of free space, a complete anti-recovery process could take some time, even an hour, that’s why the program has an option to disallow the computer to enter standby mode.
Find and Run Robot finds and runs any file. Find and Run Robot (Farr) is an application that addresses to those who like very much to use the keyboard. This application is based on a “Live Search” to find programs quickly and files, in a way similar to Google Desktop, but it is smaller.
The application is very simple to use, after you press the invocation (Pause Break default), you will see a small window where you can write what you want and the results will appear immediately; the application retains a list of the most accessed files for quick access, a history.
It is found commonly in the system tray, and by right-clicking the application’s icon, you can access some functions and settings. Farr also can be configured to search the Web, send e-mails, manipulate files, control windows and others, using plug-ins.
The advantages:
* It can run without any configuration, useful for beginners;
* Is extremely configurable;
* Keeps a list of the frequently used files and their hierarchy depending on the score;
* Supports many plugins that increase the “range” of the application;
* It is available in portable format and can run from stick also;
* It has an Automatic Update and plugins.
This application seemed very interesting even from the first sight, and its simplicity and efficiency, along with other reasons listed above, makes it to be a competitive alternative to Google Desktop.
Folder Guide allows a quick access to common directories. When you access always the some folders to get to a certain file, it starting to get quite irritating to navigate through “100″ different places to get where you want. In this case, Folder Guide will get rid of this trouble because it integrates itself into the Explorer context menu and allows a quick access to several predefined directories.
If you want to start the application to configure the default folders, you can make this from the context menu, by clicking Settings. The interface is very simple and intuitive, with very few commands.
The most useful part is that this menu can be accessed also in the Open or Save windows, and thereby gain time when looking for destination directories.
Although this application does not seem unusual, it does prove its usefulness. My opinion is that for a faster access to common directories you can use with confidence Folder Guide.
Free Screen Recorder records what the desktop shows. Meanwhile there is also CamStudio, a similar application but better at certain chapters. Free Screen Recorder is an easy to use application for recording the content displayed on the monitor. The registration is in .avi format and you can use the codecs installed on your computer for compression. It records everything from mouse movement to writing text, displaying of the windows and pressing the buttons. Also if you have the microphone you can record voice in the background.
You can set the audio quality, video, the framerate, the codecs that this application to use. For the cursor, you have either the ordinary curson option or you can highlight it. You can record also only a certain portion of the display, not necessarily the fullscreen. Through the combination of keys to start, stop and cancel, the application can be easily controlled. Free Screen Recorder is a very good tool to make presentations, demonstrations, video tutorials.
