The video adapters consume a lot of memory space. When you want to check the available memory in your computer, don’t get confused by the fact that the system will show you that it has less memory than you knew. This is due to the fact that the system needs memory to load the operating system, the other applications you ordere to start along with the start of the operating system and so on. The memory installed in your computer is in all the cases larger than the available one, because you may have 2 GB of memory, but only 1 GB available, because the other one is consumed by the functioning of the operating systems and other programs the computer runs. This is exagerrating, usually the computer doesn’t require that amount of memory to run the operating system, but this depends from one computer to another.
The anti-virus program software consumes a lot of the resources of a computer. When the available RAM doesn’t handle the pressure, the BIOS cache starts to help it or so I read. The result should be a good management of the RAM designed to provide an improved performance to the computer. The cache uses the system memory. This type of memory is usually not listed in the System Properties window, that is why you will not see it when you will look for it.
When you buy a new computer, you have a certain amount of memory , that comes pre-installed on the computer. In almost all the cases, the manufacturers leave some space free for those users who will want to upgrade the memory module in time. In this way, when you will need more memory, if you will ever need it, you can upgrade the memory module. In our days, a laptop computer can have around 12 GB of memory. This is the highest amount of memory used by a laptop computer. when talking about desktop computers, the situation is different, because laptops computers require small components. In the case of a desktop, the manufacturer won’t get cheap at inserting more components into the battery bay, thus more chips.
If you have more memory chips inserted into the computer, the processor needs a lower amount of time to transmit the data to other internal components and the data transmitted to itself will be transmitted quicker, thus the processor when it performs the operation of reading or transmitting commands to the hard drive will do this quicker also. If you add more RAM to your computer, this will boost the computer’s performance. You will never wonder how your computer was able to “lose” 1 GB or 2 GB, since you now have 12 GB ready to be used b by the system. You wouldn’t even notice the difference.
Everytime you buy a computer, try to buy one that allows you to upgrade the memory, the hard drive, the fan or other component, because in time, they degrade and you will face the situation of changing them or buying a new computer.
Inside a computer, there are several slots containing memory chips. The most important memory type is the main memory or the RAM. Most computers have only one slot filled with chips or with a chip, better said. But the user can insert more than one into the computer, if the computer allows it to. The slots have to be created especially to allow the adding of suplimentary RAM. But in order to fill the other empty slot with memory chips, you have to figure it out what kind of memory your computer uses. The user’s manual or the specification sheet, how this is called by some manufacturers, will normally provide this information.
When you buy additional memory chips for your computer, you simply have to insert the chips into the memory bay and wait for them to snap. This happens when the memory module accepted the new memory chip. And try not to touch anything around the motherboard or the motherboard itself. Before you reach the point of inserting the chips into the memory slot, you must remove the casing from the computer. and some other things, like unplugging the computer, removing the battery, disconnecting all the other peripherals connected to the computer and so on. If the operation seems too difficult for you, you better consult a technician.
There are several symptoms that indicate it’s time to upgrade the memory. One of these things comes from the mouse pointer which turned into an hourglass stays in this mode for a significant long period of time. Also, other sign that tells you to upgrade the memory is when you hear the hard drive working. This is a signal for upgrading the memory. You should not hear anything while working on the computer. Except for the fan, in the summer days. An insufficient memory could cause a lower performance and weaker results.
If the computer uses high-end graphics, and you use for example a CAD software or edit advanced digital videos, the computer might work alright with 1 GB of RAM, but it will appreciate you more if you will install more memory into its memory bay, let’s say with 1 GB more. The more memory you have inside your computer, the less time is required by the processor to read data from the hard disk and to respond to the user’s commands. Almost all existing computers have a bare minimum of RAM installed, this is why adding more RAM to the computer will boost the system performance.
If you don’t know what amount of memory you have installed or availble in the computer, you can follow the next procedure to find it. Click Start and then go to Control Panel. Select Performance and Maintenance. Click the System icon. In the System Properties window, on the General tab, you will see, among other information what is the available RAM in the case of your computer. Usually, the information looks something like this: “Manufactured and supported by Lenovo”. Instead of Lenovo, you can read IBM, Apple, Samsung, MSI and so on. The computer type is speciffied in that window as well, the processor type and the processor speed. Below all this information, you can see the available number of GB or MB in your computer memory. Also, the General tab ensures information about the owner of the computer, it tells you his or her name, and about the operating system available on that specific computer. If you did not know what operating system you use, you can enter Control Panel and find out.
