Remote control with TeamViewer

TeamViewer is a quick, simple and easy to use application, a control solution and remotely complex technical support using the Internet.

It’s an application that integrates several modules:

-          Remote control of computers using the Internet;

-          Can take control of a computer from anywhere in the world through Internet, event through a firewall. It doesn’t require installation, just a safe and quick use.

-          It allows the displaying of demonstrations, presentations (Power Point), remote support (for friends, colleagues, collaborators);

-          File transfer (sharing), chat;

-          It’s a free application for noncommercial use.

TeamViewer is a solution for everyone. Most applications of this kind offer separate packages for remote support, remote administration, demonstrations and presentations, file transfer, chat, etc. It has an integrated solution for everything you need, containing all the modules within a simple and very accessible package. The application can be used not only for remote computer and server  control, but also for installing and uninstalling of other applications even if that requires restart and reconnect.

TeamViewer has integrated file transfer that allows you to copy files and folders on and from the remote partner computer, even if that works behind a firewall. That should not worry you because this program is a very safe solution. It uses for transmitting data an interchangeable key and AES (256 bit) encrypted session, the same security standard used by https / SSL.

The use of this application does not require administrator rights. Just run the application and that’s it! The Internet connection optimization is made automatically by TeamViewer depending on the quality the user selected.

Another way of work is presenting your desktop to a partner. You can show him a demonstration, a product or even a Power Point presentation (which may be recorded).

Among the problems faced by remote control applications are firewalls and port blocking and their routing for IP addresses. If you use TeamViewer you don’t have to worry about this. TeamViewer will always find the route to your partner. The use of this application is very simple and doesn’t require an initial configuration. After the main window is displayed, you can choose the way you want to work: remote control, presentation, file transfer or VPN (by default is remote). Then you must get from the partner the name and the password, and after that you can start working. Those who want more options and features can try superior versions of the program but for a price.

This is how it works:

  • In the menu click on Extras and then Options to open the options window.

  • On Your display name write your nick.
  • Check Minimize to tray menu, in order for the window to go in systray, instead of occupying a place in the startbar.
  • Put your password in the Password field, for not writing it every time someone enters your PC.
  • Write the password again in the Confirm password field for confirmation.

Be careful! Don’t put a password that you use for different mail or website accounts because those who must enter you PC with remote desktop must know the password. After this, give your partner your ID and password and you’re done.
