Strong DC++ is a client program used for sharing files. Strong DC is derived from DC++, and is a version that works basically the same, but adds a lot of additional options, very useful for the experienced users, who want to have total control over the software they use. The main advantages of Strong DC over other programs of this type are:
- Segmented download – a file can be downloaded from multiple users at the same time. This way significantly improves the download speed and is safer that the conventional download.
- Limitation of the download / upload speed depending on the requirements of other programs: Internet Explorer, Winamp, etc.
- Automatic disconnect of users that have upload speed too low, to avoid unnecessary use of slots.
- Customizing the interface by changing themes, icons, sounds, etc.
The most important upgrade of the 2.4 version is the possibility to download through a router, through the passive directly way from other users in the same situation (passive connection). In previous versions, this passive connection was a problem to many users and gave a lot of headaches when it was wanted to download a file from a user that used the same passive connection.
The program is based on the old DC++ and installation is very simple. Download it from this address, unpack it and run the executable file StrongDC.exe.
Once the program is launched, the settings window appears in which you must fill in the next fields:
- Nick in format: [Country][City][Internet provider]Name
- Line Speed (upload) – choose a value depending on your Internet connection
The following settings refer to the Internet connection. Thus, on Blind Address you must add your IP, at Incoming and Outgoing you should choose an option depending on the presence on your computer of a firewall type program, or if the connection is made through a router.
From now on, everything is clear simple. You must select the folder where the completed downloads are to be moved, and the temporary one where the unfinished downloads be moved. Here too you should configure the public hubs list by clicking Configure Public Hub List.
To be able to connect to different hubs is necessary to make available to other users a number of folders (or even entire partitions) from your computer. The minimum amount of information that you must share vary depending on the hub.
From the settings dedicated window you should also choose a value for the upload slots. For example, I write 10, meaning that 10 different users can simultaneously download files from my computer.
If you went through all these steps above, you only have to click on Public Hubs to connect to different hubs. You should choose hubs from you own country to get better transfer speed connections.
When you find proper hubs you can add them to Favorite Hubs. Strong DC will automatically connect to them, once it is started, to the ones you checked.
