Sony prepping mysterious product

Sony is currently counting down to the launch of a mysterious product. On the company’s website you can see exactly how much time is left until the new product is introduced. Initially spotted by Engadget, the product is thought to be the Xperia X10 which is finally getting ready to ship to the US. While the slogan ‘Smarter is Coming’ has little to nothing to say about what product Sony is prepping, checking out the site’s source code will soon reveal that it’s the X10 the company is talking about. The picture included under the counter also gives you a clear idea that the Xperia X10 is finally on its way to the US. Several Engadget readers also pointed out that you could clearly see the Xperia logo if you open the image in a photo editor and greatly increase the brightness.

Still, what’s disputable is whether the Xperia will actually bring something ‘smarter’ to the US market. Last we checked the Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 was still way behind more recent smartphones because of running an older version of Android, namely Android 1.6. Hopefully has thought about this and will give its flagship mobile phone a required operating system upgrade.

In the meantime, what you need to know about the Xperia X10 is that it packs a 4 inch 65k color capacitive touchscreen and a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels. Like many other smartphones before it it offers its future user a wide assortment of interesting features such as a 3.5 mm audio jack, a MicroSD card slot that supports cards of up to 32 GB as well as 1GB internal storage, WiFI, Bluetooth 2.1, and microUSB port. What could be considered great about this phone is that it also comes equipped with a 8 megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash, image stabilization, geo-tagging, face and smile detection and video at 30 fps. The device is powered by a Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon 1 GHz processor.

Sony Ericsson phones have two aces up their sleeves. One would be the Cybershot technology that turns them into some of the best camera phones on the market. Walkman phones are also known for their capabilities of music playing. All in all Sony Ericsson products offer great photo quality as well as great music and audio quality. Assuming Sony would care to upgrade this pretty impressive phone to a more recent version of Android it might just become one of the top choices amongst phones running Google’s OS on the US market.

As mentioned a while ago, The Xperia X10 was said to be on its way to US carrier AT&T and get there sometime between August and September. Some sources claim that the X10 will cost $345 for independent dealers, but the official price tag this handset will have through AT&T remains unknown. However, Sony’s timer continues to tick and is close to getting to the time when ‘smarter is coming’. So we can all wait for more details to be revealed then.
