Skype can most likely be included in a top 20 things you love about your computer. Even though Nokia has the motto ‘connecting people’ it actually applies to Skype better than the Finish mobile phones. Skype has been offering free voice and video calling for almost seven years. This means it was time for some sort of upgrade. Software innovators can now embed skype into their products with the help of a software development kit called SkypeKit.
SkypeKit was initially released in June and available only for Linux. Support for Mac OS X and Windows has now been added to the list. For now, SkypeKit is only available as beta and just through invitation, but interested developers may request an invite on the company’s website. Until this point, SkypeKit only provided APIs for voice, video calling and instant messaging that connected to Skype’s official desktop client. As of now, SkypeKit will also include super wideband audio and developers will actually be able to embed Skype’s features into their own programs.
As for the pricing, at start, Skypekit will be worth a nominal membership fee, of less than $20. As soon as a third party product becomes available, the user will have to pay an add-on fee. If you’re interested in giving SkypeKit a try, you can request an invitation right here.
