Samsung A927 Flight II revealed but not released

Isn’t it funny how new mobile phones suddenly pop up on various US carriers’ websites without a proper introduction? The same happened with Samsung A927 which was recently discovered on both Samsung’s and AT&T’s websites even if it hasn’t been officially announced by either of the two companies.

So what can the future users of the Samsung A927 expect? First off the Samsung A927 Flight II features a side-sliding four-row QWERTY keyboard which should make this handset quite appealing for any user who spends a lot of time texting. Samsung’s to-be-released handset also includes a 3-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. A 2 megapixel camera can be found on the back of the handset and also offers video shooting capabilities. Of course, all those pictures and videos a user will take should require some storage space and the 512MB onboard memory may not be enough for everyone. This is why the Samsung A927 comes with a MicroSD card slot that increases that storage space to a maximum of 16GB. Now that’s clearly enough space to store all your media.

The phone is also said to come with support for AT&T’s Mobile TV service as well as quick and convenient access to popular social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. Come to think of it, I doubt from now on we’ll ever see a mobile phone that doesn’t offer that, seeing as studies reveal that most of the Internet time of the vast majority of users is dedicated to Twitting or changing your status on Facebook. Samsung’s Flight II will also include customizable widgets, Bluetooth and aGPS.

PhoneScoop who was the first to uncover this information reports that the A927 will be available exclusively from RadioShack stores, as revealed by the Samsung website. Samsung’s information page has since then been removed.  The thumbnail is still present however, even though Samsung’s website politely lets you know that ‘the page you requested is not available’…anymore.  The price tag of the phone hasn’t been reveled so far and Samsung and AT&T are expected to make an official announcement soon.

Samsung Flight II A927 is an upgrade to previous model Samsung Flight, a phone that never became extremely popular due to the small keys it offered. The first flight, also sold through AT&T featured a down-sliding QWERTY keyboard. Since the mobile phone was decently narrow, this sliding part didn’t provide enough space for a comfortable keyboard. In order to upgrade their mobile phone and please their customers, Samsung has cleverly re-positioned the keyboard and it now slides to the side.

For the brief time when the A927 was present on Samsung ‘s website, this is what Samsung had to say about their product : “When it comes to both messaging and entertainment, the sky’s the limit with the Samsung Flight™ II. It features a slide-out full QWERTY keyboard that helps you easily message every which way possible, while its touchscreen puts you in touch with your favorite TV shows and websites. Attractively designed and very affordable, the Flight™ II  also features a 2.0PMP camera, music player and variety of social networking apps. Get the best of both worlds, and the best of everything in between, too. “  On AT&T’s website the Flight II can still be spotted on the Copy Contacts Wizard page here.
