When we were kids we used walkie -talkie radios to communicate with our friends or siblings who were in the other room. They were really cool because they were the real stuff, rel electronic devices that ran on batteries, not some plastic glasses that we put a whole into and use to listen to our neighbors’ speech. Later on, just a few years ago I used again a similar device, this time one way only – the walkie-talkie that let me know what my baby was doing in his room or when he woke up. Well, if you liked these and never got the chance to have the real deal, now you can use VoiceCom 1.0 to replace them and you will be excited. This is actually a voice communication program for your computer. You can now use it as a kind of walkie-talkie, but this timeyou don’t necessarily have to be close in space, but you have to be connected to the local network -LAN.
This software application actually behaves like a Push-to talk intercom. You can use this application if you have at least two such LAN connections and can support up to six users at a time. If you want to use this application with your friends, make sure all of them have it installed on their computers and are connected at the LAN . Each user stays at his own terminal and, when he wants to communicate something, just presses the TALK button and holds it down all the time he talks. Only when he finishes the sentence or whatever he wanted to say and wants to listen to the interlocutor’s respond does he release the button.
VoiceCom 1.0 can be used for either just hearing the others’ messages or just talking, but not without any of these functions at the same time. You can choose to talk to one interlocutor at the time and in this case you will only select its user name or to all at once and then you will choose “talk to all”.
There is no need for you to try to identify the other terminals, as they will detect each other once the software is installed. However, you can decide what name to give to your own terminal and choose for example the name of the room you are in – like “kitchen”. Of course you will need a microphone and some speakers if you want to be able to communicate appropriately, but i don’t think this is a problem, as all computers have these peripherals attached.
The software is compatible with Windows XP, Vista and Windows 7 and has 490 KB in size, being produced by Hillstone Software and sold for 20 euro.
