When learning foreign languages you basically learn the meaning of words first and after that how to use them in sentences. The biggest problem is that most of the times, many words in all the languages have a lot of meanings, depending on the context. That is why it is very useful for a person who is just beginning to discover the secrets of a foreign language to see as many contexts as possible with a certain word and also to infer the word meaning from the text, without searching for its translation in your mother tongue. This idea lead to the development of the software applications that have different approaches regarding the new and foreign vocabulary and the use of modern technology in order to obtain the best results in this field. Vocabulary Highlighter 0.2.0.7 is such an example of software utility which also uses a very eye-catchy and efficient method – highlighting unknown, important, having more meanings words in bright colors that are very easy to see and remember.
Vocabulary Highlighter 0.2.0.7 is an add-on and it works only with Mozilla Firefox, helping people learn foreign languages or improve their knowledge of vocabulary. It is thus natural to require the user to have at least version 3.5 of Mozilla Internet browser. The interface of this application is very simple and easy to use and the user will be able to get things done alone, without any help and without much knowledge of computer science. The user needs to fill in a list with the words they want highlighted in the text and when pressing the search button, these words will be automatically highlighted. This way you can see the different contexts in which certain words are used.
But there’s more to it. When you hover with your mouse cursor over the highlighted words you have the possibility to see an explanation or definition that appears then, explaining or maybe translating that word. So you can see that this application can be really useful.
This is the latest version of the software and it brings new improved features that make the user’s search really easy. For example now when performing the search for a certain word you can get all the variations of that word. You only have to add the sign “~” after that particular word. For example if you search for “teach~”, you will get all these phrases highlighted: teach, teaches, teaching, etc.
The application was developed by some guy called Son Nguyen and can be downloaded as freeware. It has only 21 Kb , so you won’t even notice it. For any questions or additional information, just contact the application web site.
