People’s activities depend a great deal on the sun. This has happened from the most ancient times and is still true in some way. Nowadays we do not depend on the sun so more as in the present, but it’s still very important. We do all the works in the field depending on them and we rest when there’s no sun in the sky. Not only that , but you can easily get lost in the forest if you travel at night, no matter how well equipped you are and how modern are your gadgets. Then the position of the sun is very important for navigation, making things a lot easier than at night. Any way, it is probably useful to know the exact time when the sun sets or rises, both for practical reasons and for theoretical knowledge. For example near the Equator the sun sets very quickly and it’s dark in almost half an hour, so it would be really useful if you knew the exact time when it does set, so that you can take the precautions of coming home or to your camp in time, in order to avoid dangers.
I don’t know what made Andreas Konarski develop this software application used for calculating the sun position – maybe it is scientific curiosity or his passion for astronomy, but he thought about sharing it with other people. So SunCalculator 0.86 is a very simple and small software application that you can use for calculating the sunrise, sunset and dawn times in different places on Earth. The application has 7.6 MB in size and has a version for Windows and one for Mac computers. It is offered as GPL so everyone can download it and use it for free.
