Review SpeedFan NLite Addon 4.41

Sometimes you can see your computer behaves in a strange way without an apparent reason for doing that. It stops working and restarts out of the bloom or does something unusual that you tend to blame on some malfunction of the operating system. However, sometimes the cause is not determined by the software, but by the hardware on your computer. But because you lack the ways of monitoring all the hardware parts inside your computer, you assume everything works properly until your PC breaks down and refuses to work. SpeedFan NLite Addon 4.41 can help you in this respect, as this is precisely what it does: monitor the hardware. I know the name is SpeedFan and that is supposed to suggest that it is capable of displaying the speed of the system fan, but it actually does more than that.

This software utility is able to perform more actions at the same time, for example it can change the speed of one or more of your computer fans, it can read and show you the temperature on your computer’s motherboard, display the voltage of your computer and also show the speed of the fans and the status of the hard drive. Of course these are the total of possibilities, but you can choose only one or some of them to monitor, so you can customize the settings according to your needs. This way when the situation that you considered occurs, the software will know how to deal with it automatically, without ever needing to ask you what to do.

When the window of  SpeedFan NLite Addon 4.41 is minimized you can only see the temperature of the system that is read by different digital temperature sensors connected to different parts of the hardware. However, when you open that window you can see more information like the total voltage and all the current fans in the system. But first of all you should know that the temperature displayed is actually the temperature that is being read in different points by the sensors attached to the chips. So when the system temperature is too high and you want lo lower it, you can do this by adjusting the speed of the different fans.

The continuous monitoring of the hardware pieces can help you diagnose correctly an eventual hardware malfunction like an improperly installed heatsink or maybe a faulty power supply to a certain part of the system. So once the problem is identified you just fix it and you are again able to use the computer appropriately. Every piece of hardware is searched : the motherboard, the hard disk, the CPU and all the others, as SpeedFan NLite Addon 4.41 is able to get the status info from EIDE, SATA and even SCSI drives and displays all this internal data that you can use o diagnose a hardware problem correctly.

In the end I should warn you that you need some technical software and hardware knowledge if you want to use this utility. If you are interested in it you can download this software that was developed by Alfredo Milani-Comparett as freeware. It has 1.9 MB and is compatible with all Windows versions. The only system requirement is for your computer to have nLite installed.
