Price Of TVs Dropped

Now it is the perfect time to buy a television. Ram Lall, a television salesman stated that times for making lots of money from selling televisions have gone. In comparison to three or four years ago, the prices of the televisions have dropped. For example a television which could have been sold for $6,000 three years ago, can now be found at $2,500.

Mr. Lall stated that he and the other television sellers are making less money than they could make, because the industry is forcing them to reduce the price of the television sets. Televisions are very common, and as a result they have become very cheap. Because of this, people can rarely make a substantial profit by selling them. There is an oversupply of televisions on the market, and because of that, the prices dropped a lot. There are numerous manufacturers who sell televisions at very cheap prices, and the online retailers sell them at even cheaper prices.

Of course, the consumers are thrilled by the change, as they can now purchase a great television set for less money they in comparison to the past years. The retailers that sell the TVs and the manufacturers are heavily affected by these changes. Toshiba, Sony, and Panasonic have been affected by the change. The same thing can be said about Samsung and LG, who have a very difficult time making money from selling TVs.

Sony stated on Monday that it will end the collaboration with Samsung, which was created in 2004. They created the partnership in order to sell the LCD televisions. Samsung will pay $940 million in order to purchase Sony’s 50 percent stake. Sony will continue to buy panels from Samsung, but they hope that through these changes, they will save manufacturing costs.

The retailers experience these changes as well. For example Best Buy stated that in the third quarter, they experiences a 29 percent drop. The future of television seems to be connected with the things they display. For example, the 3-D televisions are very popular nowadays, and it seems that their popularity will increase in the future. Gregg Richard, president of PC Richard and Son, which has 66 stores in the U.S stated that everybody is fighting for the money of the customers. He stated that the company sells more units than they did in the past, but that they sell them at discounted prices. Customers are smart, and instead of paying a certain price for the TV sets, they patiently wait until the prices have dropped.

  1. Hi, again!

Somehow the drop in prices for TVs doesn’t help me. Why? Cause newer TVs use lower quality panels, and only the backlighting has changed. Other than that, many things stood the same.

I wouldn’t trade in my IPS TV for a newer one, unless it has a better panel. And 3D isn’t exactly that cutting edge to make me buy one. There are far too many issues with the technology.
