I found a piece of news, stating that PC games are back again into business. I might sound too ironic: but did they ever leave the game industry?! It`s true that some problems appeared when iDevices and online platforms showed up, most of us kept the traditional way of playing a game on PC. I would like to hear your opinion related to this hot debate: how do you prefer to “enjoy” your game experience and why?
A game editor, Dan Ackerman asked himself rhetorical whether we are facing a renaissance of PC gaming these days. His examples to prove this thesis were “Civilization V”, “Starcraft II” or “Crysis 2”. From my point of view, these three major examples don`t say nothing about the dynamism of PC game world.
Although some game editors prophesied the end of PC games, they didn`t ever vanish from the market. Indeed there were some tough problems when iDevices as iPad and iPhone appeared or lately when online platforms as OnLive showed up with their more interactive features, but PC games still occupied an important place in selling tops.
It`s obviously that game industry faces the impact of the global crisis. Some specialized magazines were closed, some game companies reduced the number of games launched during a year, but still games sell good. One sociological reason is that the postmodern man feels the need to play, that`s why some managers complaint about the fact that Farmville is a non-working leisure.
Gaming is a global social experience. Teenagers get into touch sometimes through the agency of a game, either it`s PC version or an online one. They develop in a certain way their abilities of criticizing or appreciating facts, thanks to the vogue of posting thoughts on community. If you haven`t ever read some posts from a game community, I recommend you to do it. There you will find the most personal and rough affirmation in this world, sometimes more ironic than in a newspaper. Some of magazine managers have the brilliant idea to recruit future content editors directly from forums, which isn`t that bad. Teenagers have a chance to get affirmed and managers get the benefit of hiring someone with fresh opinions and expression.
Maybe for children and teenager, to play on computer, consoles or online platforms is a normal deed. When it comes to mature persons, over 25 years old, everybody seems to criticize this leisure, because is “immature”. I have never understood this opinion, I only agree on one aspect: when gaming affects your performance at job or your personal life, you should reduce the time spent on games.
Otherwise, it`s quite pleasant, relaxing, killing time or even fashionable to get out of your pocket the ultimate iDevice and to play. Time will pass more quickly when you are waiting for your bus, train or plane. The social effect of this gesture can be sometimes translated as a snobbery, so watch at the context in which you find yourself.
