Because I did not play this game before, I choose the relaxed mode. Next, I got to select a disease class. Well, this is not my type of game, with diseases and all, but I will present the game. After all, perhaps there are people among you who love this genre of games.
You can select between a virus, bacteria and a parasite. The virus has the fastest evolution, the bacteria a medium one and the parasite the slowest evolution of all. Being a virus is like being a king in the world of infections. You have to write a disease name. You can write your own name. It is weird to consider yourself as a disease, but it is not weird when you plat this game. If this is your first time when you play the game, you are invited to see the tutorial. The game starts with a beautiful picture representing the map of the Earth, probably the place where you as a virus will be spread.
The news that appear on the screen tell you if the virus has been spotted in a country on the globe. In my case, the virus was spotted in Peru. I clicked on virus to see what are the symptoms of it. Here is what I found out. The virus that has my name, because I named it after me has as main symptom, which is in fact the only symptom I have found when I clicked my name, coughing. If you don’t know what this is, you can click on it and it will be explained in a medical approach.
Other possible symptoms, which are not caused by this virus, but by others are: vomiting, sneezing, fever, sweating and others, that can be unlocked after a few rounds in the game. The virus is resistant in my case to heat. Others can be resistant to cold, moisture and drugs. The trait of it is that it is durable and it is included in the Virus category.
In my situation, the virus was spotted in Peru. To see the situation in Peru, I had to go in Peru to see if the hospitals are open, if the schools are open, if the people die there from this disease. But to go to Peru, you must know that Peru is in South America, because on the map, there are only points, not names of the countries or continents. Those who are not good at geography, better don’t play this game, because you will feel that you don’t belong here.
The objectives of the game are simple. You have to spread the disease that has your name. If you entered the game, you have seen by now that people travel using airplanes from a country to another, so you can infect one person that you know he or she will travel by plane and thus you can spread the virus in the location where he or she goes.
This game is definitely not for me. I want to stop the diseases, no to create them. Anyway, as I said in the beginning, not all the people love the same genre. You have to kill as many people as you can by infecting them with your disease. Keep the visibility of your virus low, because you don’t want governments to interfere. You have to pay attention to the news, because you can create various situations based on those headlines.
I like the game because it has a nice interface, but for me, it would have been better if I could to kill those viruses, not to spread the disease. To spread the disease around the whole globe, you need to be patient and to have some luck. People that travel by boat can also be used to spread the virus.
When you click on a country or on a region, you can see information about afflictions, government affairs, services and infrastructure and population. At the Population chapter, you can see the healthy population, the infected population, the alive one and the number of the people died from yout virus. You can see that the airports are open, the schools as well, the shipyards, the borders and the transit is on.
You can see also if the population wears masks to protect against the virus, if the government took some measures to control the water in their region, if they are exterminating rodents or insects and if the martial law is in effect or not. Once the disease is open, you can add more symptoms to it to make it spread quicker, for example, if you have a symptom like coughing for your disease, this means that you can spread the virus through air.
You can infect more people, if you follow certain steps of your created strategy. For example, if you add more symptoms to your disease, after a while, after you infect more people, you can unlock other symptoms, like diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, pulmonary edema, dementia and more. Hipersensitivity is another symptom that can make your virus spread like crazy into the world. Others refer to: kidney failure, ataxia, depression, hemorrhaging.
If the disease is spotted, the researchers won’t stay in vain and they will create a vaccine. You will be announced by the game that the governments created a vaccine and they shut down their airports to stop the disease from spreading. You can click on the World button to see the development of the vaccine worldwide.
The infected regions in my situation in the game are Peru, the starting region, Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. On the World screen, you can see how many people are healthy in the world and how many of them died because of your disease. Also, you can see how many days you have until the game will end. In other words, how many days until completion. I don’t quite understand what this means, probably how many days do they have to pass until you will remain the single living human being. Or something like this.
If the vaccine is a great success, like it happened in my case, then you have to think to create a new strategy to maintain the efficiency of your virus. I leave this job to you now.
