Oblivion

I came across this game by hazard and I decided to take a look of it, thanks to its strange name. “Oblivion ” sounded for me as a notion descended from Latin, but I was wrong. It`s about a fantasy game placed in a medieval background, where you will have to face some orcs` invasions. Does it sound familiar?!- indeed, you will have a sensation of déjà vu just seeing some screenshots…it looks like World of Warcraft, but less dynamic.

In fact, Oblivion is just a sequel. The entire game is called “The elder scroll” and includes four sequels, the last one being Oblivion. “The elder scroll” is produced by Bethesda Game Studios and it supposes a single player type for PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The story in Oblivion revolves around the same mighty knight, who has to face this time a new challenge: the raise of a fanatical cult decided to open the gates of hell. Oblivion is the embodiment of this hell, a sort of demon that sprinkles horror and death. I know that the plot sounds too banal, but I bet that admirers of esoteric games will be delighted to see this one.

What you will love to this game, if you are decided to try it, is the fact that you can move as a player anywhere inside the game at any time, without being banned by the main storyline for not respecting the order of facts. It`s one of the facts, about which gamers usually complain: the obligation to stay stuck to the initial plot. In Oblivion you can postpone a quest, if you are willing to slaughter some orcs or do anything else and there`s no problem about this. You will have the strange impression that the game never ends and probably this is why the producers chose to enhance it in this way, for a clear difference among other fantasy games.

The customizing feature is also reason of pride for producers. You can change anything at your avatar, no matter in which episode you are. Your avatar begins as a human, but during the game, you can improve your skills up to seven different abilities, such as “strength” or “destruction”.

My opinion is that you have to play it and not reading reviews. Personally, I got a little bit dizzy, following a review, where emperors, son of emperors, enemies from the west and enemies from the east were disposed in an almost chaotic order. Not to mention that in a small province, there are different parties, each one very proud of its traditions…if you are patient enough to discover each covenant  and the signs of destiny, “Oblivion” is the perfect game for you.

Believe it or not, but this game managed to conquer the third position in top five of Steam this week, so let`s give it some credit, before criticizing its strange plot.
