Nikon Coolpix Camera Available for Sale in September 2010
Nikon, one of the major camera manufacturers in the world, launched a year ago the first camera with a built-in projector. The name is Coolpix S1000pj and because it has been successful, as is normal in this industry, it was expected this summer to witness the emergence of a second generation of Coolpix.
The Japanese have not disappointed their fans and there appeared the first information about Nikon Coolpix S1100pj, which benefits of an overall improvement, and contrary to appearances, it comes at a price lower than its predecessor.
Design and construction
Nikon S1100pj is the second camera with built-in projector. Nikon has remained consistent about the type of the camera on which it has implemented the projector: an ultra compact easy to use camera, which has a little more than 2 cm thick. The construction is solid and leaves a feeling that will provide a good outlet in hand; this can be felt also because of its very fine curved front of the chassis. Moreover, the design is largely similar to that of the previous model, whereas it was well-received by users.
Is worth mentioning that the device has an USB connector for easy connection to your computer, allowing the project to be used as an attached screen.
Technical Features
If I mentioned something about the projector, I have to tell you more about its characteristics. You should not expect miracles from the LED projector. After all, we’re talking about a technology suitable for very fine cameras and not for such a stand-alone device. Even so, Nikon has managed to improve the brightness, which is now at 14 lumens, 40% better than the first model in the series.
The CCD sensor is capable of 14.1 MP and is accompanied by a target that offers a 5x optical zoom. The pictures taken can be viewed immediately on the diagonal LCD display of 3″ having the advantage that it is sensitive to touch. The total number reaches 460000 pixels, enough for a camera in this range. Also the screen has 5 stages of brightness for easy adaptation to natural conditions.
The video enthusiasts were not forgotten by Nikon. They have the opportunity to record videos in HD format at 720p resolution.
Nikon Coolpix S1100pj has 79 MB internal memory, but the photos can be stored on SD cards, SDHC / SDXC. The manufacturer claims that the battery has a capacity large enough to let the user to take 220 pictures or for recording a video clip of one hour and 35 minutes. The dimensions of the device are 100.8 x 62.7 x 24.1 mm and the weight reached by it is of 180 grams, including battery and card.
Availability and price
Nikon Coolpix S1100pj has better technical features than the previous model, making it a natural evolution of the series. However, Nikon has managed to reduce the production costs (or perhaps they have chosen to low the profit), so the device will have a suggested retail price of $ 350, at least in the U.S.. These cameras are available in stores from September.
