My Computer icon is associated a program with which the user can configure certain options of the operating system and hardware (physical) installed on that computer.
Also through this program the user can manage work with files and directories (create, deletions, copy, move, rename, etc.).
In general, over a three icons can make transactions with the mouse:
- Right click – after this operation typically generates operating system the user chooses a menu with a left-click the desired option;
- Left click – this operation is used to select an icon (be it a file or directory)
- Double click the left – is used to start running a program associated with an icon or see the contents of a directory or a file attachment icon in question;
NOTE. THE CONTINUATION OF THIS COURSE WILL BE LEFT DOUBLE CLICK called Double LEFT CLICK CLICK CLICK.
My Computer icon properties
By right clicking on My Computer icon and choosing Properties, the operating system generates a window with the following options:
- General Options The name of the operating system installed on that computer, the license owner’s name on the operating system, processor type installed on that computer and RAM capacity in MB (mega bytes (bytes)).
Note. RAM is where it loads the operating system and user applications run.
- Device Manager option provides all the hardware installed on that computer and type (eg double click on Display Adapters option will still appear in a line that says what model video card in your computer is concerned);
- Performance Option shall again RAM capacity but also as percent of system resources are available at the time (eg System Resources: 94% free, where free = free available).

Operations with My Computer
By double-clicking the My Computer icon on the left on a window will appear containing the following icons, symbols suggestive:
- Flopyy (A:) – is an icon associated flopyy unit (by clicking the double left-click in the window will show the structure of existing files and directories on 3.5”floppy disk, the user can work with them;
- (C:) – is an icon associated with the first partition of the hard drive, ie the first root directory of the hard drive;
- If your computer has a CD-ROM mounted and an icon and name associated suggestive root directory of your CD-ROM (it is D: or E: or F: etc.).
- Control Panel – is an icon with which the user can double click configure certain options of the operating system or calclatorului;
- Printers – is an icon associated with a program that manages any printers that have been or are installed on that computer.
Working with files
For working with files in the root directory C: firstly in the My Computer window, double click the icon to C: and the window will show the structure of files and directories of C:. Most operations are performed with right click.
a) Create a directory. In the window C: is given a right click on the white background (not icons) and select option NEW-> Folder. Next the window will appear as an icon that says New Folder and a slider with which the user can delete that word and replace it with a name given by him. To end the operation press the ENTER key or click on the white background of the window.
b) Delete a folder or file. For this are the following: Right click the file or directory, the Delete link in the menu then a message appeared with two options (Yes and No to cancel deletion confirmation operation).
c) Rename a file or directory. Are the following: Right click the file or directory to be renamed, the menu that opens choose the Rename option and then see that the file or directory blue color and is a slider with which the user can delete the old name.After he changed the name to pass the ENTER key or left-click on the white background.
d) Copy a folder or file. This requires several steps to be taken by the user, namely:
- Right click the file or directory;
- Copy from the menu appears choose option (this option mark (select) the file or folder to any copy);
- To copy what I have selected two possibilities exist similar:
- User “shall” with double click in the folder where you want to copy, then right click and choose Paste option (this option is actually copying);
- Gives the user a right click on the directory that want to copy what was selected and then select Paste;
e) Move a file or directory. Steps taken by the user are: Right click the file or directory in question, choose the Cut option, then right click on a directory that would be made to move and choose Paste.
Note. To select multiple files and directories for copying, moving or deleting them we have two alternatives:
1. Hold down the CTRL key and click on each one gives the directory or file you have selected. When I finished the selected release CTRL and right click on one of the directories or selected files. Then choose the desired option depending on what we want (delete – Delete, Copy – Copy).
2. Keep Left click and move your mouse over those directories or files, then clicking issue.

Up button takes us to a level above the structure of files and directories of the hard drive. The other buttons do the same with options studied so far.
Recycle Bin icon.
When a user delete one or more files or directories are not permanently deleted from your computer but are sent to the Recycle Bin icon. To be permanently removed the recycle bin Right click on Desktop and choose Empty Recycle Bin and they will be permanently deleted.
Also to bring back accidentally deleted files, double click on the Recycle Bin is selected what we want to bring back the right click and choose Restore option (to restore).
