From Earth`s viscera, let`s make a journey to space. “Mass Effect 2” will hit stores in 2011, officially January, but at this moment it`s reason of dispute between Microsoft and Bioware, its producers.
It looks that the Mass effect franchise was exclusively available on Xbox 360, Microsoft`s platform and PCs, until now, when Bioware decided to offer the game for PlayStation 3. Some game editors expect an acid answer from Microsoft, although I believe that the giant of computers is too busy to promote its free online games such as “Age of Empires”, instead to waste energy for such a tiny aspect, but we will see.
Beyond controversy, “Mass effect” is considered to be a venerable title in game industry and I propose you to drop a look at it, unless you are a loyal fan of the space game.
The first sequel of the game was released in 2007, under the label of Bioware and distributed by Microsoft Game Studios. The plot of “Mass effect” is placed in the year 2183. You will enter in the shoes of an elite human soldier, Commanded Shepard, leading the SSV Normandy, an advanced prototype of starship. Indeed, you have played before “Star Wars”, you will have the sensation of a déjà-vu and even the hero looks so familiar to a Jedi Knight, excepting the clothes. Event the system of communication has something of Star Wars` ideas, but play both games and figure out whether Bioware got inspired from LucasArt.
You can participate to combats either alone or in squad, with your friends. During your playing, you can pause, change weapons and customize your general status. Your weaponry is complex, so you won`t get bored too soon from your pistols, shotguns, assault and sniper rifles or grenades. If you ever dreamt to travel through space like an astronaut, there`s your choice, your ship is designed to explore all the corners of Milky Way, at your disposal.
In “Mass effect 2”, you will be revived for a new mission. In the end of the first sequel, Commander Shepard was killed in an ambush by unknown aliens, called suggestively Collectors. Irony of destiny, Shepard is brought again to life by an enigmatic organization called Cerberus (this is inspired from the Greek guardian of Hell`s gates, a dog with three heads). Now, the new born Commander Shepard is asked to find out more about the mysterious and dangerous Collectors and to protect the human colonies.
This new sequel is to be played in team, as the hero is asked to build his own squad for fulfilling the mission, so gather your friends in your living-room.
Although the backgrounds haven`t changed too much and the class of characters was a little bit improved, “Mass effect 2” managed to sell more than 2 millions of copies in its first week on market. Among the novelty in this sequel, I can mention the feature of regenerating and long term of usage concerning your weaponry, which is classified in 6 types and so easier to be used.
