Apparently, LG and other companies are making 2011, the year of the 3D technology. Everything now comes in 3D: the movies, the games, the electronic devices, I have even seen that the food is going to be delivered 3D (wait a minute, isn’t is already?). So, the electronics fabricants will provide also 3D equipments.
At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, LG have revealed another intention of theirs of transforming everything into 3D this year. LG Optimus is already known as a powerful smartphone. If you are going to make it 3D, then you could at least try to do something different than the rest of the electronics manufacturers. And LG made this indeed, when they created the first smartphone in the world, which uses the 3D technology, without requiring special glasses.
The phone looks like a regular smartphone, which uses the Android 2.2 operating system, has a 4.3 inch screen and 4 standard buttons at the bottom of the screen, which are representative for the Android devices. To obtain the 3D effect, you have to position the phone in a certain position, the effect is guaranteed when you play games. So, you don’t need glasses, but you need to find that position of the phone in which it will deliver this effect. A good thing is that this effect can be turned off at will. So, start the effect, but find the position in which you can see the 3D working, because you have for nothing the effect turned on, if you can’t find the position.
You can record 3D videos and take 3D photos. Let’s see what are the other specifications of this 3D phone. It has a TFT screen, the size have been already mentioned, it has a 800×480 resolution and it runs at 720 px when it plays a 3D content and at 1080 px, when it plays a 2D content. The processor is dual-core and functions at 1 GHz. The device weighs 168 grams. The phone will become available from March and it will start to be used first in the United Kingdom, according to a review made by Mashable.
This phone has a lot of other features, which can be seen on the LG site. For more information, you can see the video below, which presents the functionalities of this smartphone. It is just your average smartphone, enhanced with the 3D capabilities. I expect this phone to be more popular than the iPhone, now that the fever with the iPhone decreased. And perhaps Apple will use the same technology on their next iPhone who knows. One of my favorite phones this year is definitely LG Optimus 3D.
