One of the reasons why people bought Sony’S Playstation 3 (or, in fact, most of the playstation consoles) was that Sony initially supported running Linux on the console. However, at the end of last year Sony’s Playstation portable turned up as the world’s most pirated console and Playstation 2 didn’t score very low either. Earlier this year, Sony removed the ‘other operating system’ option as soon as it started shipping the slim Playstation 3. A Firmware update was launched to remove the functionality from all existing PS3 systems. The reason behind this was the high piracy of games. As a result, PlayStation 3 became one of the safest consoles on the market allowing less mods and hacks which might lead to game backups and piracy.

Still, as you close the doors to people wanting to play pirated games on any platform, they’ll definitely learn to climb in through the window. This is the way things were ever since Pac Man hit the market.
Following the popular jailbreak of the Apple, a site is now offering a PSJailbreak in the form of an USB plug and play solution. The application installs in seconds, and is meant to keep your valid warranty seal intact. It’s also meant to be compatible with all production models from all regions.
So what can you do with the PS Jailbreak exactly? Well, first of all the application disables forced software updates and will never brick your console. As soon as Sony finds out about this solution, the company’s first move will be to release a firmware update to disable it. But if PSJailbreak works properly, and firmware updates will be disabled completely, users won’t have to worry about the jailbreak being disabled.
It also allows you to backup games to the internal hard drive of the console, or an external hard drive, through USB and boot directory off GUI. This eliminates the need for a Blue-ray burner. In most cases, the games will also play faster from the hard drive and on top of that users will be able to run homebrew application by loading the applications/games off of any USB hard drive or flash drive.
Apparently, the creator mentions that PSJailbreak will install fully in 1 second so it should cause no trouble at all to any kind of user. It doesn’t permanently modify your Playstation so as soon as you unplug it from the USB port, it’s completely disabled. The company even boasts one year of warranty, so if anything should happen, you’re covered.
Of course, the PSJailbreak was even presented in videos, but this doesn’t fully prove that it works as its creator claims. If it does however prove to be a viable solution, then it’s bound to become very popular, mostly because it doesn’t modify the console in any way.
