There is much to say about the iPad. It has changed the way we perceive web browsing on a portable device. It was just the thing for some users who were pleased by their iPhone’s functionality but wanted a screen that was a bit larger. The iOS update promised to make it even better, allowing multitasking and folders to organize the various applications on your screen. Well, it looks like apart from bonus features the iOS 4 may bring something new for iPad users as well. A price tag.
We’re not sure where they’ve heard it, but the Stuff.tv staff claims that it knows Apple is planning to charge for the software upgrade. An anonymous source has revealed this information. When questioned how high the chance is that Apple charges for the update, the anonymous source answered ‘Definitely’. This move has been taken by Apple before, in the case of the iPod Touch updates. It’s not yet clear at this time how much Apple is planning to ask for iPad users to be able to switch to iOS4. While it shouldn’t be much, it will be extremely offensive for some of Apple’s old and faithful customers, as well as some of the new ones.
While Apple was questioned on the subject, their only reply was the standard line according to which the company doesn’t comment on rumors or speculations. The iPhone 4 problems have already made Apple less popular amongst consumers. This is a fact regardless of what PR analysts may say. This means including a fee for an upgrade that was expected to be free, could anger Apple existing and potential customers even more and would most likely prove to be a very bad step to take for the company that invented the iPod. While Apple refuses to comment, we’ll soon find out whether there will be a fee for upgrading your iPad to iOS 4, and how much that fee will be exactly.
