How to use feed – RSS?

Information in this Help topic applies to Windows Internet Explorer Windows Internet Explorer 7 and 8. Here are answers to some general questions about feeds (RSS).

What is a feed?

Feeds, also known as RSS feeds, XML feeds, aggregated content or web feeds, are frequently updated content published by a website. They are normally used for news websites and blogs, but are used for distributing other types of digital content such as images, audio or video. Also, feeds can be used to deliver audio content (usually in MP3 format) that can listen on your computer or MP3 player. This is also called podcasting.

How do I know if a website offers feeds?

When you first view a website, Internet Explorer, search for feeds. If flows are available, the button image Feeds Feeds button will change color and you will hear a sound.

How do I view a feed?

When you visit a Web page, the Feeds button will change color to let you know that the new feeds are available. Click the Feeds button, then click the feed you want to view. If you use Internet Explorer 8 and a Web site also offers Web Slices, web button will appear the Web Slice button. To get content automatically, you must subscribe to the feed. How do I subscribe to a feed?

1.Open Internet Explorer clicking the Start button, then click Internet Explorer.

2.Go to Web site which has the flow that you want to subscribe.

3.Feed Imagine Click the button to discover feeds on the Web page flow.

4. Click a feed (if more than one). If one stream is available, go directly to that page.

5. Click the Subscribe to this feed.

6.Type a name for the stream and select the folder to create flow.

7. Click Subscribe.

How do I add a feed to Favorites bar of Internet Explorer 8?

To add a feed to bar preferences, subscribe to our feed, then select the Add to Toolbar Preferences dialog box Subscribe to this feed. If you’ve already subscribed to flow, you can click the Add button in the button bar PreferinţeImagine Add to Favorites bar to add flow to bar preferences. What is the difference a flow of a Web site?

A stream may have the same content as a Web page, but it is often formatted differently. When you subscribe, Internet Explorer automatically checks the Web site and download new content to see what is new since you last visited the stream.

A paid subscription to flow?

Not usually subscribe to a free flow.

How do I view subscribed feeds?

View the Feeds tab in the center flows preferences. To view the feeds in Internet Explorer 8, click Preferences, then click Feeds. In Internet Explorer 7, click the button center center preferences, then the Feeds button.

Other programs can display feeds are subscribed?

Yes, Internet Explorer provides common list of streams and other programs. This allows you to subscribe to feeds in Internet Explorer and other programs to read, such as mail clients and Windows Sidebar

What is RSS?

The acronym RSS means Really Simple Syndication (simple aggregation) and is used to describe the technology used to create feeds.

The most common formats are RSS and Atom. Flows formats are constantly updated with new releases. Internet Explorer supports RSS 0.91, 1.0 and 2.0 and ATOM .3, 1.0. . All web feed formats based on XML (Extensible Markup Language), a text-based computer language used to describe and distribute structured data and documents.
