Many of the computers today come with a password that blocks the user of the computer to access the BIOS or other software components that should be accessed only by a qualified personnel. There can be set on a computer other types of passwords as well, for protection against theft (well, this doesn’t mean that your computer can’t be stolen, it means only that the person who will steal your computer won’t have any possibility of entering your computer, mainly the hard drive where you have stored all your data without your password, that only you know), for protection against other people’s eyes and so on.
But what happens if you forget the password that you have set for your computer. In this situation, you have no other chance than to call the representatives of the company from where you bought the computer in the first place and explain them the situation. If the computer is under the warranty period, you can solve this problem without having to pay a certain fee, but if it’s not, you will have to pay their disturb.
This procedure requires a specialist and if you decided to do this by yourself, which means without the help of a technician, but with the help of a friend, which is good at computers, you should at leas read the instructions provided on the site of the company from where you bought the computer.
You won’t find articles telling you exactly how to disable a primary password or an adminstrative password, you will find something related to passwords. Make sure to read with maximum attention all that is written there. Of course, you will do this by using another computer, since the computer you already have cannot be accessed anymore because you lost the password. As an advice, you should change the password once in a while and in this way, you will not forget it that soon.
To disable the password, you need to turn off the computer and remove the cover. This is done no matter you have a laptop or a desktop. In the case of a laptop, you should remove the battery also, to make sure that your computer will not be powered when you work on it. The jumper plug has to be moved to certain pins, depending on the computer you have. For example, in the case of a Dell computer, you have to move it to pins 2 and 3 of the ENA/DIS PSWD jumper. This stands for Enable/Disable Password. The jumper plug will be connected to pin 1 and pin 2 when you will turn on the computer, after of course reassembling the whole computer. You will be requested by the system to provide another password. You have to select one that you can keep in mind. It is a good thing to note the password, but never on a thing that belongs to you, like your smartphone, or other device, which can be easily stolen as well. The password should be memorised and only then written down. You can write it down in an agenda that you use rarely, and you have it somewhere between your favorite books; in this way you will remember it. Make sure to not write too many passwords there because you will forget what is the username for that password or for what account that password is created.
