How To Check The Microsoft Product Key

A product key is made of numbers and letters which are used when a software program is installed or when you get a new hardware which needs to be installed in the computer using a driver. The same series is needed here in this situation as well. Every key is unique and if you get a Microsoft Windows operating system and your neighbour gets one in the same day, he will receive another product key than your’s.

A complete installation of a software requires that key you get from the manufacturer of the software. So, to provide the key when the software needs it, you have to first find the key in the package you receive along with the software. It is usually written somewhere, or you can get the key by e-mail. If you can’t find the product key, then the installation will not be completed. When you get a software from Microsoft, you get a CD or a DVD which has the software written on it. Turn the CD face down and check the code there. The CDs coming from Microsoft have the product sticker usually colored in yellow or orange. The string or series of the numbers and letters you want is placed in the yellow area that you find on the back of the CD which contains the software.

The string must have 25 characters. The are divide into 5 groups of numbers and letters, divided by hyphens. There is no problem if you received the code via e-mail and your e-mail is usually visited by other people (well, in fact it is a big problem, but it’s not a problem when it comes to the installation of the software), so even if your mail is not exactly secure, you will be the only one who will install the software based on that product key, because it is created to suit your product, the product you bought in a certain day from Microsoft, a product which has a speciffic number and which is designated to a single person, who paid Microsoft to use it.

If you will reinstall the software, after let’s say you will reinstall the operating system as well, you will need that key again, so place the product key in a safe place, in case you will ever want it. You can find more about how to use the Microsoft codes by accessing the Microsoft site. The Support section of the site will provide you everything you need to know from installing a software to uninstalling, removing components, working with applications, upgrading external components, replacing batteries and many more. The software programs which can be downloaded from the Internet usually have a key inside them and they don’t request the user to write the code by himself. Usually these programs come for free, since you get no CD from which to install the software.
