How To Add Links To Your Content

You can place links inside your content in about every segment of your content. The text is the one which is the most targeted when it comes to placing links, but also the images can redirect the users to some other sites or locations in your site or in that page where the user actually is at the moment when he clicks the link and so on. For example, with the help of the <area> and <map> tags, a programmer can say that a certain image will direct the user in three different locations. Of course, for that the user must click on those links that will redirect himself towards those locations. The most used image is the universe image, or at least what we call “universe”.

There is an image with the Sun, the planet Earth and Mars, let’s say. The blog is about astrology and the author of the blog created an article called “The Universe”. In that post, he referred also to the Sun, Earth and Mars. He places an image with those three monsters of the skies at the top of the screen. If you click on Earth, you will be redirected to another article written by the same author or not, in a new page or not. The same thing happens, if you or the user who visits the page clicks on the Sun or on the planet Mars. This kind of image helps the user to find more things about something related to the subject from which he started in the first place, all of these being made in a fun and easy way.

You can make a whole picture to be a link or small parts of the image. If you want to place a link on an image, this is harder to be done when using the simple WordPress widgets. You have to hire a good programmer that knows how to integrate the HTML code into the code of the site which is hosted on the WordPress platform. This is an easy thing for a good programmer, with one or two years of experience in WordPress and in integrating graphics elements in WordPress.

The simplest situation is when you need to insert a link to a small part of the text written in your post or to a single word. You can add links to other sites or to your own site in order to make the content more readable and the people to understand clearly what are you trying to say, without to search for additional information on Google.

If you link to Wikipedia, you can be sure that the information will be read, because that site benefits of a positive image among the Internet users and you will get yourself the image of a person who really cares for his users. You can link towards other sites, with which you have made an agreement to place a link in your content, if they place a link towards your site in their content, or if they provide you another type of service, if they add your site in their blogroll and so on.

The link exchange is also a sort of advertising without the user of any physical money. Sometimes, there are not even written agreements, nor collaboration contracts or other legal forms of collaboration. There is only the verbal agreement between two or more sites owners.

The simplest way, as I said before is to link to a Website, by placing the link on a text. In WordPress, this can be done in the following way: select the text where you want to place the link and make sure the text says something related to the site that you are going to link, click the Link button which is on the toolbar, in the window that opens, you must write the URL of the site, whose address you want to link to the text you selected earlier. You can add besides the URL, the title of the link, which is what the users will see, if they move their cursor above the highlighted text, because that text is going to be blue or other color that the programmer selects. The default color for links is blue.

Also, the links that have been already visited by a certain user, will be seen only by that user in a different color than blue, if the programmer doesn’t specify something different. When you click on a link and you go back to the initial page, from where you left to see that site coming from the link you clicked, the color of the link will be also changed.

If you want to link to an existing content on your site, you can click the search button, write the word that you search and click Enter. You will see the variants that appear, click on one of them, if you have found what you wanted. After you have entered all these data, you have to click Update to post the image into your content. The text will be highlightened in blue, if the programmer doesn’t choose as default color for that Website, in the case of links, the green color, let’s say. You can remove a link, by clicking on the broken icon, which is next to the link icon. The icon represents a broken chain. I will leave you now. I’ll come back in one hour with another tutorial about links.
