For safety reasons, the touchpad on your laptop could be deactivated when you receive the laptop, in the same way like the battery is removed from the computer, to stop the computer from getting powered exactly when the laptop is on its way to its master. You can see that the touchpad is not working when you place your finger on that sensitive area and see that the computer doesn’t respond to your commands. If you are a user who doesn’t even have a mouse, you will be needing the touchpad to work perfectly.
But the touchpad can be deactivated also for other reasons, not only for safety reasons by the manufacturer of the computer. The laptop might have a problem and who knows for what reason the touchpad to be affected by that problem. In this situation, you have to do the following things. Because the touchpad offers full mouse capabilities when it’s working, you have to go to Control Panel and then to Mouse Properties. This is the area where you can disable or enable the touchpad. The recent models of laptops need the Synaptic drivers, which will disable or enable the touchpad. This is available for the times when you want to use the USB features of a mouse, for example.
The touchpad can be deactivated by mistake by the user who owns the computer. This is why you have to take into account several rules when you use your computer. Of course, like any other electronic device, the computer is not a tool to play footbal with; you need to clean it, to work gently with it and to give it what it needs: power. The electro-static touchpad is an area that attracts much dust. When you clean it, use a smooth cloth that will remove the dust. And also, maintain the “cleaning” inside the computer. Try not to delete important documents in your computer, like the software which deals with the touchpad and always run an anti-virus on your computer.
