According to PCMag who presented the news today, the SketchUp8 3D modeling software, which allows those who want to create 3D buildings and to place them in certain places on the Google Earth map, this is going to be the new feature of Google Earth. So, instead of placing photos with the view seen from your hotel room, when you were in a vacantion, you can draw a 3D building. That’s new! The news came from Google on Wednesday.
This tool is available for free, but those who want to play more, can buy a version which costs 495 dollars. This is a little expensive, I guess not everyone has enough money to buy a software costing that much, but is worth it. The paid version is known as the Pro version of the Google SketchUp tool. The user can add the buildings directly on the Google Earth map. Before you start using this free tool, because I doubt that the paid version is going to be a massive hit, you have to make sure that you already run a version of Google Earth.
Next I presented some guidelines about how to install Google Earth, because the new feature will be available instantly, if you access it online. I’m talking about the free version.
1. Installing Google Earth
Make sure first that you have downloaded Google Earth. When the download process has finished, you should automatically open the software and begin using Google Earth. Google SketchUp8 3D can be used by those who are not that talented at drawing, but they will face a little pulled back by those who can make technical drawings. If you experience issues when installing Google Earth through the Google Updater, you have to download the latest version of Google Earth.
If you automatically launch Google Earth, it is possible that it was already installed an existing account on that computer. Select “Run the free version” to use the application. The tool SketchUp 3D can be used separately from Google Earth, but since it has been created in corelation with it, it is recommended that after you draw a building to place it where it belongs on the map, possibly in your neighborhood, which might be a little not well-seen from the satellite.
2. Uninstalling Google Earth
To uninstall Google Earth, follow these steps:
1. Click Start> Settings, Control Panel.
2. Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
3. Click on Google Earth.
4. Click Remove > Yes > Finish.
If this method fails, try updating your version of InstallShield. This may help to correct any corrupted files that could cause the problem. To update InstallShield, please follow these steps:
1. Open the folder in C: \ Program Files \ Common Files.
2. Right-click on InstallShield folder.
3. Click Rename. Rename the folder. (Maybe you want to name Installshield_OLD).
4. Close the file and go back to installer http://earth.google.com/download-earth.html
If you encounter an error of type MSI or. Dll when you try to install or uninstall the application, remember that Google is currently investigating this error. It is possible that the following instructions to help you solve the problem:
1. Download and run the Cleaning utility of the Windows Setup from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
2. Uninstall your version of Google Earth from the dialog box: Add / Remove in Control Panel (Control Panel).
3. Upgrade to the latest version and download the version from Google Website only.
3. Retrieving your login information for Plus or Pro version
If you are currently a paying subscriber to Google Earth Plus or Pro and you can’t remember the password used for login, you have to enter Google Earth Website in order to solve the problem.
Note: only the subscribers to Google Earth Plus and Pro are asked to provide login information. Google recommends that you copy and paste your username and license key from the login e-mail that you receive to avoid the writting errors.
If you’re still having problems connecting to Google Earth Plus or Pro, perhaps you enter your login information incorrectly. If you have purchased Google Earth Plus, your license key will not work for Google Earth Pro and vice versa. If you realize that you try to access the wrong version, download the correct version.
4. Upgrading your graphics card drivers
Google Earth is likely to hang or have problems if your graphics card driver is outdated. Updating it should solve the problems. Do not install drivers for graphics cards in beta.
You may receive the following error messages about this problem: emulation of software, file. Dll missing, unknown graphics or rendering frames. If you receive this error message: file. Dll missing, try reinstalling Google Earth before updating your graphics card driver.
For laptop computers, visit the Web ite of the laptop manufacturer (Dell, Toshiba, Sony, etc..) to download the latest driver for your graphics card. For desktop computers, visit the Website of the graphics card manufacturer to download the latest driver for your system.
If you do not know what type of graphics card is installed on your computer, you can use a program to determine your computer’s hardware, operating system and graphics:
1. Go to Start> Run.
2. Enter dxdiag in the box.
3. Click OK.
4. Click Yes to answer the question and the program will start running.
5. Click the Display tab and find your graphics card name under the section called Device.
Note: for certain graphics cards you should also install DirectX 8.1 (or later) from Microsoft. Although you can use OpenGL for 3D rendering, some OpenGL drivers include DirectX. Currently, Microsoft recommends DX9.0c, but DX8.1 and later work too. To install DirectX9.0c visit the Microsoft Download Center.
If you make these updates, but the problem persists, set the DirectX 3D rendering as the default program covering the following steps:
1. Click Start> All Programs.
2. Move your mouse over your version of Google Earth, select Set Google Earth rendering to DirectX.
3. Restart your version of Google Earth.
To switch to OpenGL follow these steps:
1. Click Start> All Programs.
2. Move your mouse over your version of Google Earth and select Set Google Earth rendering to OpenGL.
3. Restart Google Earth.
