About 1.25 million GPS Garmin Nuvi units will be recalled to the factory to get a new battery. The reason is behind a combination of battery and integrated circuit that could cause a fire from overheating.
Garmin officials announced a recall of 1.25 million Nuvi units for the series 200W, 250W, 260w and 7xx. The problem of these models occurs when using models of batteries from a third party vendor and is manifested by overheating. In some cases, respectively in 1.25 million cases it was used a specific integrated circuit, which is likely to overheat the GPS and it is unable to automatically stop, thus causing a fire.
Garmin will prevent this situation by replacing the battery and by placing a device between the battery and the integrated circuit to prevent the overheating of the circuit.

To find out if a GPS unit is affected, its owner must note the series on the back of the receiver and to introduce it into an application on the Garmin Website. Since most GPS devices are used on board vehicles, the risk of fire followed by a serious car accident is high, although the possibility for that GPS to overheat and to ignite is low.
The GPS units affected by this recall were sold throughout the world, and Garmin customers who have problems will receive instructions depending on the area where they live.
Garmin makes every effort to collaborate with their customers and they apologize for the inconvenience caused by this problem. The electronics manufacturer implores its customers not to attempt to repair by themselves their GPS units and also to not attempt to repair the charger of the battery.
The battery supplier of Garmin has agreed to share the cost of the recall with the manufacturer of GPS devices and Garmin does not expect any loss in sales or profits because of this recall.
