Farmville and World of Warcraft, reason to divorce
When I read this piece of news, I really couldn`t benefit it. I know that more and more couples invoke the weirdest reasons to get divorced, but to advance in front of a court Farmville and World of Worldcraft as main enemies of your marriage, is a little bit exaggerated. Personally, I don`t exclude the idea of a negative publicity ordered behind the scenes, so I would like to hear your opinion: are today`s games so addictive, that one forgets which one is fantasy and which one is real world?!

The information used in that news was delivered by the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and states that more than 80% of lawyers have faced in their cases the impact of social networking sites, MMO (massively multi-played) games and even Youtube`s clips. One of this lawyers bring in front the case of father, willing to take his son in custody, because his ex-wife is anchored all day along on Farmville. I don`t want to be ironical or misunderstood, but these cases of computer addiction have to be treated in family, if one of the parents doesn`t care about the rupture in his/her family, the shame is on him/her. To bring the argument that the other part doesn`t get separated from the computer, it`s like washing your hands off responsibility.
It looks that the worst enemy of families is ironically, Farmville, one of Facebook`s games. If I`m allowed to be subjective, I can`t possibly see how Farmville can lead to addiction. I`ve been playing it for a year and I haven`t forgotten to say “I love you”, to feed my dog, to go shopping with my friends or to learn for my examples. Anyhow, let`s admit that Farmville causes more than 60% of the divorce cases.
I propose you to see in depth the mechanism of Farmville, as we have been discussed recently by World of Warcraft.
So, Farmville is created by Zynga, a games company founded in 2007, whose purpose is to connect people through playing. Games won`t ever die, as Man is a playful being, so any company with this specific will have profit, if it knows to conquer the market. Zynga`s team came on the market with a surprising offer: childish appealing games. If you look to your avatar in Farmville, you will see that it`s smaller than other avatars like a sort of dwarf and the animals there have something in common with the representations from the books of your childhood. Zynga`s preference was risky, as the world of games is dominated by fantasy and sometimes bloody games as World of Warcraft, but it was worthy. The game has more than 24 000 000 of fans around the world, so think of the revenues they bring. Farmville can be considered a free-to-play game, but if you are willing to buy a special animal, you will have to pay with cash, via your Facebook account.
I`m ending this article in an ironical way, probably too ironic: what about inventing a game about divorcing?! It will help us avoid divorce or just going deeper on matrimonial problems?!

errata: When I read this piece of news, I really couldn`t believe it
You would not believe how serious this problem is. I have a 24 year old male friend which plays WOW all day long. He would sometimes refuse to go out with his girlfriends and even with us, his friends, just to stay home and play that stupid game. I’d ban it if it were up to me. Or at least I would restrict usage to just a couple of hours per day.
I understand you, Patty, but we cannot ban it or restricted, producers will always say that we live in a democratic society and so on. The problem with your friend is more difficult than that one described by Katy, my only thought is to try to divert his attention even for an hour at least. Remember what are his favorite things, excepting this game, organize a surprise party somewhere in town, think to get him out of the magic inside there. I haven`t met so severe cases of games addiction, I might sound too superficial, try to consult a psychologist for an accurate point of view. Good luck with your war against World of Warcraft!
