Eric Schmidt: Young People Should be Able to Change Their Names

Google’s chief said that in the future, young people should have the right to change their names to lose the embarrassing things left on social networks.

The young people should be allowed in the future to change their names to get rid of compromising photographs and other things they have left on various social networks, says Google’s chief Eric Schmidt. He says there are enormous personal details left on social networks like Facebook and in the future they will grow, writes The Telegraph. The statements come in the context within some other information appeared on market, that presenting the fact that Google will soon open the third social network.

The same Eric Schmidt says that Google will get at a certain point to have so many details about their users that it will help them to plan their lives. Google’s boss said the society does not understand what happens when so many details about so many people are registered for everyone to see, on the Internet. He added that in the future, young people should be allowed to change their names to escape from their past embarrassing things written online (compromising photos or unfavorable material posted on social networks).

Schmidt says Google will know in a few years so many details that will help the users to plan their lives. Google will locate users using their phones, they will tell them what restaurants, cafes etc are in the neighborhood and will help them to plan their actions. Schmidt explained that Google now wants to know what is the tendency of searching the Internet and says that the future trend would be that in future more and more searches on the Internet to be made on behalf of a user, but without typing a thing on the computer.

“I think most people do not want Google to answer questions. They want Google to tell them what they should do next”, says the company’s CEO who comes with an example: If Google will come to know a lot about a person, what he likes, what friends does the person have, that person can be reminded exactly what she or he needs to buy food when passing near a shop.

Everything comes in the context in which rumors that Google would want to launch a third social networking (Orkut is now old and Buzz was heavily criticized because it was imposed by force to the Gmail users sometimes). None of this social networks could rival to Facebook which has reached half a billion users.

In addition, Google has taken the eye of the authorities in several countries for the collection of confidential information from unsecured Wireless networks, including the contents of e-mails and even passwords through machines that make pictures in 30 countries for the application Street View. Also about this service there were protests and complaints in court after some people were surprised in unpleasant poses (from out of sex shops, up to photos that depicted them drinking in the street).

More and more people are worried that Google will get to know far too many personal details about too many people, which likely could jeopardize some people and violate their privacy.
