Donkey Kong Country Returns is a side scrolling 2.5 platform game published by Nintendo for the Wii console. It was released yesterday (November 21, 2010) in North America, and it’s set to be launched on December 3, 2010 in Europe, and on December 9, 2010 in Japan.
It’s obvious that Donkey Kong Country Returns is not a Retro Studios reinvention. By making this game, Retro Studios didn’t look to add new technology or fancy new features. Their goal was to make the game play feel fresh, without adding too much. Everything you remember is here: from swinging from vine to vine to collecting bananas and the golden K-O-N-G letters. Donkey Kong Returns offers a brilliant level design throughout the entire plot. It is a game of discoveries and challenges, creative and full of fun stuff.
Donkey Kong Country Returns is played out on the world map, arriving in the middle of a tropical island filled with jungles, water, lava, and barrels. The player progress from level to level by running, jumping, flying, climbing and even using a classic mine cart ride.
Donkey Kong Country is one of my favorite video game series, the only problem, also found with many platform games, is “do-or-die experiment” – if you don’t hit the jumps exactly right, you’ll end up repeating the section over and over until you do nail it.
