Dictionary .NET

Space and time seem to have compressed lately, I mean ever since we have developed the means of transport so much. You can now go around the world in a few hours, not in 80 days as Jules Verne dreamt. And because you can move so fast from one country to another, especially when you travel there with business, you must make an effort and communicate somehow with these people. And even if you have an interpreter there you might also need a dictionary when reading the official papers. Or maybe you are just interested in a particular country and culture or you simple do some research on some web sites written in another language than your native language. In all these cases you need a very good and effective dictionary. I know there are a lot of online dictionaries right now, but they are not always very reliable and also they can only show you the translation in one language, not more than that. This is where Dictionary .NET comes to the rescue. It is a very small and easy to use software application, that it’s child’s play to use it.

This software application was developed by Fish and can be downloaded here. It offers an incredible amount of tools even for the most inexperienced person, as it is able to automatically detect the language of the web page or document that is being analyzed and translate it into 59 languages. You can select the word or phrase you want translated and simply click or use a hot key for that. You can also use a multilingual translation and even have whole texts translated in one of the languages available. You can edit a document in a certain language and get suggestions on the text, perform a Wikipedia search and so on.That allows you not only to translate the words or texts you need, but also get their general meaning and definition, which is very important.

Dictionary .NET is basically a software application that relies on Google tools , but also uses more data bases with the meaning and translation of words. It’s very useful and smart because sometimes certain languages have particularities that can’t be translated word by word and in these cases you are suggested an approximate equivalent of the phrase or even a subtle explanation. The text does not change if you perform translations and then you want to have the text back in the original language, as it happens with other translating tools, which is OK.

The only requirement for the system is to have .Net framework 2.0 installed on your computer. It is offered for download as freeware, so enjoy using it without having to pay for it. Its small size makes it really handy, as it takes up a minimum space of 116 KB on your hard disk and works on all versions of Windows starting with 2000.
