This it the strangest title of a game, that I ever heard. From my humble knowledge of Latin, it can be translated as “without God”.
“Deus Ex, the conspiracy ” is a game for Playstation 2. The history of “Deus EX” started as a PC game, under the label of Ion Storm INC., a small game company from Texas in the `90s. in 2000, when it firstly appeared on the market, the game produced a shock effect. It was a new and strange product, proposing a cyberpunk action role-playing.
The critics were positive for this game of first-person shooters, including the prestigious title of “Best PC game of all Time” in PC Gamer`s Top 100. At that moment, the pioneering designs and multiple narrative paths draw attention over it. Selling more than one million of copies for a sequel, tells much about the potential of this game.
The plot is placed inevitably into an apocalyptical background, the period of 2050s, in a dystopian world, where a special agent for United Nations Anti-terrorist, JC Denton, fights against the chaos established by terrorist. Although we are living in 2050, the agent will deal with ancient conspiracy groups as Majestic 12, the Illuminati or the Hong Kong Triads. I have to admit that these names that I mentioned, might stir my interest on the game. I`m not very fond of History, but the occult side of it promises a great lecture.
The game was created initially as a single player game, but as it passed towards Macintosh, producers had to include a multiplayer feature. Anyhow, the perspective stayed the same, as single player view, so you can find it rather disappointed, comparing to the next generation f games.
Games editors were rather negative with “Deus Ex, the Conspiracy”, invoking the fact that the graphics might have been improved, but the structure remained a little bit old-fashioned. All in all, it looks that the PS2 version is even inferior to the PC version itself, which is a very strong negative remark.
The series of negative critics continue: there`s not much difference in the plot of the new sequel, comparing with the first one; the level have been chopped and so on.
Personally, after seeing the trailer, in my mind appeared a quite positive opinion about this game. Our hero is an advanced cyborg, tortured by memories of the past, engaged in a secret fight for truth and very charismatic as appealing. The game resembles with Matrix, with the difference of some features as personal invisibility (whenever he pleased, our agent can vanish) or the presence of mystical groups deciding the faith of mankind (in Matrix, the destiny is decided by one or two major powers, depending on each one`s perspective).
