Frank Gens, IDC’s chief analyst, said that these times are times of changes. The study stated that more than $700 billion will be spend on these new technologies. That is 20 percent of the money which is spent on the development of technology worldwide. In the majority of the cases, most of those $3.5 trillion dollars are used to maintain the older services and servers. It is very unusual for such a large amount of money to be used on the development on a service. The study also revealed the fact that by 2020, these new technologies will see an 80 percent increase.
The study also stated that 28 percent of the money spent on the development of this technology will come from other countries besides the United States of America; Japan, China, and Western Europe being the most important investors. It is also believe that 53 percent of the industry’s growth will take place in these areas of the world. If the study will prove to be true, then this could be the fastest transition in the technology world. The move could be one of the most important in the domain, similar to the one from mini computers to personal ones.
Mr. Gens believes that the change will be equally important. He also believes that the giants in the domain, such as Intel, Microsoft, Hewlett-Packard, and many others will have a difficult time coping with the change. He also stated that at least 30 percent of those companies will not make it when the change comes. The IDC study also stated that in 2012 alone, more than $60 billion will be spent on the development of this technology. $36 billion of that money will be provided by companies such as Amazon, Google, and others which are already using the cloud service technology. The study also stated that Amazon, will most likely make over $1 billion in profits, thanks to the cloud service technology.
