AudeLA

Men have always been fascinated by the Universe that surrounds us, by the outer space and wanted to know what lies beyond the horizon. Not many of us have the possibility to end up as astronomers, but we do love at least watch the stars and try to guess the position of different constellations on a summer night. That is why there are so many amateur astronomers who have more or less powerful devices for watching the stars. They also like to take pictures of what they witness in the skies and try to read them long after they have been shot, during daytime for example. But it’s very hard to get clear pictures of stars at night, so they need some additional help to do this. AudeLa is such a tool they can use for processing the photos they get or controlling the telescope so as to get the best position for a photo shoot. It is also useful for driving a ccd camera or for applying various astronomic algorithms on the pictures obtained in order to get different data like the distance to that particular object, dimensions and so on.

AudeLa – the name of the software application is the French version of the phrase “out there” referring to the outer space, no doubt. That happened because the software was developed by some French guys that are also passionate of astronomy. It helps all those who make astronomical observations, especially when they use digital devices like digital cameras and web cams. AudeLa is compatible with all versions of Windows, but also with Linux and OSX and is able to control more than one telescope mount at a time.

Of course it has many similar features with other image editing software applications, but it is also original as this tool is totally reprogrammable if you use simple scripts. It can be downloaded here and is very useful for all the operations you need to do in this activity. So you can use it to remotely command snapshots from cameras that take photos of the sky and are positioned in a remote area for a better view, adjust the quality of the images and of the equipment, for example focusing the camera and also for a better positioning. Then it is able to import data from different sky charts and thus enables you to identify the different stars and other celestial bodies.11
