2K Games Launches a new Series of Civilization

Civilization fans have real reasons for joy, because 2K Games recently announced that the fifth part of the popular strategy TBS (turn-base strategy) game will appear in September this year.

For those less familiar with this game is worth to mention that the Civilization series is based on running a prehistoric civilization to ultimate victory, achieving various objectives such as economic development, research, diplomacy, politics and, not least, military fights .

The history enthusiasts and not only will face some major news this fall. Thus, compared to Civilization IV, its predecessor, the new game proposes the use of a hexagonal map and of a new concept of management of the “empire”, through which city will be able to defend itself against the effects of the attacks. The manufacturers also promise a more realistic marking of the boundaries of empires and, no matter how trivial it may seem, a new concept for road management.

The player will have no more than 18 civilizations with which to begin the campaign to build the long-dreamed empire, among them being the Americans, Aztecs, Egyptians, Turks, Germans, Persians and Romans. The producers promise that civilization leaders will speak in the native language, but remains to be seen how they really created the ancient language, which nobody speaks now, in other words, is dead.

The action will develop on four levels, namely: Tactical, Operational, Strategical and Grand Strategical and the leaders of each civilization will have different features in key areas such as strategy development, economic development, economic growth, military or naval preferences.

Perhaps the biggest change in this gameplay will be managing the new Civilization 5 units, and this issue has already been mentioned: the renunciation of the classical quadratic maps for the hexagonal ones. Also, the value and the importance of the units will increase, by the fact that their development will require more time.

On the other hand, the technological progress can be greatly accelerated if the two nations create an alliance in this respect and the success may follow three different routes, the ultimate purpose being the extension of the game opportunities.

In the construction of major cities the game does not differ from Civilization IV. Still, 2K Games has implemented a new feature in Civilization 5, namely the state-cities. They will be independent and because of their weakness will not initiate military conflicts with other civilizations, their development being only within a fixed perimeter. Moreover, the state-cities may be attacked and thus conquered, among the benefits being included the full access to the city  resources.

Civilization 5 offers numerous news in graphics and tactical terms, that are eagerly waited by fans in September. The game will be available only for PC, first for Windows operating systems and then for Mac.
