“Monkey Island” is one of the most appreciated PC download games this week and surprise: it`s created by LucasArt. George Lucas gets profit from “Star Wars”, it`s a general truth, but who thought that he would try to promote a different type of gaming?! Sincerely, I couldn`t believe that “Monkey Island” is his creation and I`m going to show you why.
From a game with alien species and mystical force used in fighting to a game with funny pirates and monkeys it`s a great leap of difference, but it looks that Lucas fans don`t mind it. Next to “APB”, “Monkey Island 2 Special Edition” has been selling well this week and it`s likely to continue on this ascendant trend. “Monkey Island 2” somehow continues the game released in 1991, but with obvious updates concerning graphics, voicing and soundtrack. If you are a nostalgic, you can go back anytime to the original version and this feature is available in the very new game, there`s no need to buy another game. Personally, I appreciate this fact. If you remember, when we have discussed about “The silver lining”, this latest game was the updated version of a previous game, “The King`s Quest”, but nowhere in the game you could possibly go back to the original characters and backgrounds.
“Monkey Island” in Special Edition is also available for iPhone, iPod, beside the classical media of gaming, including PlayStation, PC or Xbox 360.
In a list established by the British newspaper, The Independent, “Monkey Island 2”, surnamed “LeChuck`s revenge” occupies the fourth place after “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2- Resurgence Pack”, “Battlefied: Bad Company 2”, “APB- All Points bulletin”.
Now, let`s peek up on the official site, to see what is exactly “Monkey Island”. Personally, when I read this name, I immediately found in my mind a connection with Zynga`s “Treasure Isle” and surprisingly, there are some small similarities: both games use pirates, funny animals for entertaining you. The differences appear on the run: on “Treasure Isle” you have to dig for treasures on different isles, one of them is the Pirate`s Island, but concrete pirates don`t appear during your search, they are just supplementary elements when your friends visit your isle for help and bloody pirates appear as a fictive danger. On “Monkey Island”, pirates walk and threaten you as a British Lord shipwrecked on a strange island. If you add to this scenario the fact that our character is highly scared of every leaf moving around, then you will surely laugh until tears, while playing the game.
“Monkey Island 2 Special Edition” costs about 10$ or 10 EUR in UE. Be sure that you won`t regret your investment, the game comes with a surprise bonus in its cover.
Hahaha, you have just reminded me of one of the coolest adventure games ever. I loved playing Monkey Island and it is that type of game I could never finish without a walkthrough. I still have to play the last on, Tales of Monkey Island but I am sure it is more complex and even cooler than the rest of them.
